Absolutely Amazing!! Blue Spring, Current River

This mini trip was part two of our anniversary celebration. Lea and I love being outdoors, hiking and water so what better way to celebrate than checking out this amazing spot.

We started to head to Blue Spings after our 15 mile kayak trip on the Jack Fork river. We were in the area and heard how blue the water is at this spring so we had to go check it out. I do recommend knowing the route before hand as we lost service/GPS a few times. Also, the road into the spring is gravel and in a few spots a bit bumpy. Make sure to slow down and take your time. We saw quite a few deer and squirrels on the way in so slowing down is doubly important.

The road eventually comes to an open area with a parking lot, bathroom, picnic table and the trail head. The hike to the spring is about a quarter of a mile. The trail is dirt and gravel. It is fairly flat with a few elevations here and there. It is well maintained so we didn't have to walk through grass or weeds which this time of year is much appreciated due to ticks. There are a few spots with rocks and roots cutting across the trail so had to keep an eye on my footing. We were also told to watch out for copperheads and other snakes but we did not see any. The hike to the spring is not difficult at all and Lea and I were able to do it in our flip flops (we forgot to pack our hiking shoes).

The trail to the spring runs along the Current River. It is very peaceful to be walking in the woods and hear the rushing water. The trail is well marked and there are a few information boards that gives the depth, statistics and a brief history.

At the end of the trial is a deck that goes out over the Spring. We walked out there and the view literally took my breath away. I have been to Greece, Cuba and other springs with different color waters but this was the bluest water I have ever seen. I was also taken a back by the illusion the water creates in this spot. It doesn't look that deep. However, according to the information board it is 310 feet deep and if you placed the Statue of Liberty in it only the raised arm with the torch would show!

After we took in the sites we headed back to the car. The trail doesn't loop, we just turned around and headed in the opposite direction.

I would definitely recommend checking this place out if you are ever in this area. The water here is an unbelievable blue color. It is a fairly easy hike and the view at the end is well worth it.
